Ioniq on DCFC

Mon Jan 09, 2017 10:06 am

Anyone have charging videos of Ioniq on DC fast chargers?

1. What's the average charging speed?
2. Any throttling like the Bolt EV?

What do you mean by 'throttling' ?? If you mean 'lowering charge rate as the battery gets closer to full', all EVs should do that to protect the battery.

I just watched Bjorn's video again and he averaged 44 kW/hr. I heard the Bolt EV will throttle to 24 kW/hr at 70% SOC.

The Bolt is supposed to accept 80 kW charging - except that there aren't really any chargers yet that will provide 80 kW.

There is one anecdotal report that I have seen that the Bolt 'drastically' drops the charge rate at 70%. There person also said that coincided with the charger's "automatic shutoff", and he couldn't say if it was the 70% threshold, or the charger stop/restart that caused it.

It actually makes sense to me that an EV car should start limiting charge rate somewhere around 70-75% SoC, to preserve battery longevity. I wonder what the charge curve would look like for charge session of starting at 80 kW at 10% SoC...
