The modern car has been running on petroleum based fuel ever since it was invented but things are about to change very soon. Tesla has been aggressively working on making electric cars and hybrid cars have already started selling in a variety of markets. While India is still a niche market for such cars, it will need cars relying less on fossil fuels to curb the rising pollution.

Korea based car maker Hyundai, which is currently the second largest car manufacturer in India, is expected to launch its own hybrid car called Ioniq in India by 2017. The car made its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 which will launch in the European markets before the rest of the world. The car comes in three different versions, a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric, with India to get the plug-in hybrid variant. It will be powered by an 8.9kWh lithium-ion polymer battery with an estimated pure electric range of 50km. The electric motor will produce 61PS (45KW) of power while a 1.6-litre GDI four-cylinder petrol engine will have the capacity to produce 105PS of peak power with 147Nm torque.

The car seems to have potential and is built a lot like the Toyota Prius sporting a kamm-tail design along with Hyundai’s Fluidic design philosophy with a hexagonal grille on the front. Other noticeable feature include vertically stacked LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels and a charging dock mounted on top of the left front fender. Inside is a sporty all-black cabin with a centrally mounted seven-inch infotainment system and a bunch of dials and buttons.

Does anyone know how the Hyundai Ioniq will differ in India compared to North America?

It probably won't differ much in specs but the price might be less compared to North America.

Expected launch date March 2017 is coming up soon. Hyundai is working on 3 different models Ioniq Hybrid, Ioniq Electric and Ioniq Plug-in. What one are you more looking forward to see. I'm torn but I think I like the Ioniq Plug-in.
:D

I'd like to see IONIQ Electric and how far it goes to keeping the zero emission promise.
