Hyundai IONIQ VS Bolt EV

Mon Feb 27, 2017 9:18 am

There's a legitimate debate going on regarding these two cars and I'd love to know the opinions of Hyundai IONIQ forum members. What do you think about the comparison of these two cars? Which one is better?

Haven't sat in an Ioniq yet, but from what I've read about it, I'd choose it over the Bolt, if only it also had 60 kWh. Maybe next year.

Valid point - haven't seen an Ioniq yet, howeve, I am not a big fan of the Chevy Bolt. Aesthetically I don't find it appealing and I don't like compact cars. Sure they get good mileage but they seem too flimsy for me in case of an accident.

Aside from personal preference, if anyone is seriously considering the Bolt EV or the IONIQ Electric, then they will look at things like:

1) Cost for range. Obviously the Bolt has a 238 mile range, and the IONIQ is around 110, so if they cost the same then the IONIQ will not do very well

2) Heating - the IONIQ uses a heat pump which is more economical than the Bolt EV's resistive heater

3) Power/Torque - the Bolt is 200 hp, 266 lb-ft of torque.

4) Passenger and Cargo room - I don't know we have specs available yet for the IONIQ?

And ... *availability* ! Ioniq EV may be only available in Southern California to start (rumors are now starting to circulate).

If you can't buy it, you ... can't buy it!

True enough! That should be where someone starts in their comparison!

1) Availability - can you buy it where you live, or at least buy it elsewhere and get it to where you live?
I know with the Bolt, initially some in other states were buying from California dealerships and then having it shipped, but I think GM has clamped down on that now?
