Cash incentives double for electric car buyers

Fri Mar 17, 2017 1:24 am

This is for people in Vancouver BC. Some of the incentives are increasing for buying an EV or even hybrid new and used. I was very pleased to read this story as I feel we kinda get the seconds sometimes in the west - seems a lot of east centered incentives for a lot of things or even timing of things-
The incentive has been brought up from 3000.00 to 6000.00 if you buy your new ev through the BC Scrap it Program. I never knew they offered anything like this. By only watching the commercials it seemed to be only that , a scrap vehicle program. If you buy a used ev the incentive still stays at 3000.00. In total depending on what car you are thinking of getting you could get 12,000.00 off in incentives using this program. Not too shabby :D

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Here’s new reason to get rid of your gas-guzzler. People looking to buy a new electric car in BC can get even more cash than in the past.

Up until now, the cash incentive to bring in your old car and buy an electric vehicle was $3,000. That’s now been bumped up to $6,000 if you buy a new electric vehicle.

It remains at $3,000 if you buy a used electric vehicle. Your used car can be of any vintage.

Dennis Rogoza with the BC Scrap it Program points out buyers can also take advantage of other incentives.

“If you buy a new electric car with our program, you can also get another $5,000 thanks to the province’s CEVfoBC® program. And some retailers are offering money. So depending on the make and the model, you could get $15,000 in incentives for a new vehicle.”

He says they managed to put over 600 electric vehicles on the road in BC since 2015, while offering only the $3,000 incentive.

The goal is now loftier.

“We’re looking to put 500 new electric cars and 400 used ones on the road. That’s 900 altogether by the end of the year.”

To date, the BC Scrap it Program has removed over 40,000 older vehicles across the province.

That's great news for people in BC! Should see an increase in the number of new electric vehicles being sold!

That could be part of the motivation, as the first delivery dates should be within the next couple of months.

With a $20,000 price tag, having a $6,000 subsidy is pretty sweet. It must be fairly popular already as they're projecting production of 400 in 2017 and the estimated delivery date for new orders is early 2018.

However, it's also described as a three-wheeled trike... I'm not sure I'd be comfortable in a three-wheeler!

In any case, the subsidy will help anyone looking at the whole range of electric vehicles available - and make an economical Ioniq an even better deal!

The Solo costs $19,888 CAD (US$15,000) before any rebate or tax credit.

And yes, it is a trike (three wheels). It also only transports ONE person.

I rounded it off to 20,000 :)

It's obviously designed for the commuter market with a capacity for only one person...
