he Nurburgring record for road-legal cars has been broken yet again, by something you've probably never heard of: the NIO EP9. No, it's not a new phone from Nokia, but it is electric. This sleek and slightly scary-looking electric coupe posted a 'Ring time of 6 minutes, 45.9 seconds, and there's video to prove it.
Where did this thing come from? China, actually, with parent company NextEV's newest electric car producing 1 megawatt. That works out to 1,342 hp, with the EP9 boasting a 0-62 mph sprint time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph. The EP9's key to setting the record probably lies in its ability to blast from a standstill to 186 mph in just 15.9 seconds, while its 0-124 mph sprint time isn't too shabby either, taking just 7.1 seconds. That right there represents a massive advantage over fossil-fueled contenders, which just can't deliver all that torque all at once even if they have a horsepower advantage: The EP9's record lap bested the Radical SR8 LM by just over 2 seconds.
