EXPECT to see hybrid and full-electric versions of Hyundai's new Prius rival, the Ioniq, in mid-October.

And there will be a plug-in petrol hybrid version early next year.
The car is seen as one of the more serious challengers for Toyota Prius buyers.

But there are no indications as of now on price or spec levels.
However, it does look like air con, cruise control, auto headlamps, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors and rear camera will be standard.

The plug-in hybrid has claimed emissions of just 32g/km. The Ioniq has its own specially designed chassis and platform, so it can take any one of the three powertrains.
Storage space in the hybrid is 443 litres, but 350 in the full-electric (larger battery). The 104bhp, 4cyl 1.6-litre petrol engine and electric motor drive a common shaft to the 6spd dual-clutch transmission according to demand and battery status. As is usual, the electric motor gets you started and then boosts engine power where and when required.

The pure-electric version has a larger 118bhp motor and a 28kWh, 260kg battery. Hyundai claim a 290km (170-mile) range. It takes 4.5 hours to recharge on household supply, but just 23 minutes on 100kW DC charging.

A mid October USA release? Yet they haven't disclosed the price. Strange!
